Avalanches

The snow wetness (snow liquid water content) is a main trigger factor of many avalanches. The satellite-derived snow wetness information can help assess the threshold value of avalanche release, thus contributing to more accurate avalanche monitoring and warnings.

Floods

Advanced hydrological models and other general models (like energy balance modelling) include state conditions of the surface, as whether the snow surface is dry or wet. Inclusions of spatial observations makes modelling more robust and accurate.

Agriculture

Monitoring of snow wetness provides valuable insights for agriculture and early drought warnings. By analyzing snowpack conditions, satellite data helps predict water availability, ensuring efficient irrigation and mitigating drought risks.
